Emma Peers

Emma, originally from Scotland, has had a lifelong passion for the arts. After graduating with Honours from The Glasgow School of Art she moved to New Zealand in 2006. Now based in Queenstown as a resident artist at Te Atamira, she can be found most days immersed in her studio, painting and exploring new ideas.

Emma’s paintings explore emotion, with recent works focusing on mark making and the manipulation of form to evoke a strong sense of feminine expression. Her art is largely focused on portraiture and figurative painting, but also draws inspiration from the landscapes of Central Otago, weaving their textures and colours into her work.

In her latest series, Emma explores the concept of Floating, an exploration of movement and colour between sky and sea. This series reflects on the quiet strength that exists within stillness, inviting viewers into a world of suspended motion and atmospheric depth.

Emma's work ‘Release’ was selected as one of the two only HIGHLY COMMENDED Regional Artists for the STUFF Art Aotearoa Gold Award for Art Excellence on 25 October 2024 at the Queenstown Art Show.
