Javier Murcia
"Javier Murcia, born in the Canary Islands, Spain, in 1981, embarked on his artistic journey at the University of La Laguna between 2002 and 2005, where he explored various mediums such as drawing, painting, and foundry work. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for sculpting, drawing inspiration from contemporary and figurative art.
In 2008, Javier ventured to Copenhagen, Denmark, collaborating on a monumental sculpture project led by Christian Lemmerz. This experience immersed him in the vibrant art community of his new surroundings, providing invaluable connections and experiences. Returning to his hometown in 2010, he dedicated two more years to a substantial commission before moving to New Zealand in early 2013.
Here, he embarked on his captivating artistic journey with the "Oxidations" series in 2015, followed by "Eidos" series. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Javier remained dedicated, launching the educational platform "Sculpture Studio by Javier Murcia" to share his knowledge and passion for sculpting, enriching the artistic community.
Throughout his journey, Javier epitomises dedication, ingenuity, and a profound connection with the art world, leaving an indelible mark on contemporary art."
