Robynne Williams
As any artist, I am influenced by my environment - physical, social, cultural - and the era in which we live. Often drawing inspiration from the lower South Island, I find farmland, hills and wild coastal areas compelling, being unspoilt, dramatic in natural beauty and vibrant in colour. My painting style is open and free, without boundaries, allowing me to produce work spanning a varied range of genres. I enjoy blending abstract and realism, and while my subjects vary they are generally an abstract interpretation. I choose not to limit myself to using any specific medium.
My studio in Queenstown is my sanctuary and creative space. I find having a clean slate leaves space and freedom for inspiration to strike so at the start of every new piece of work everything crowding my head and my studio needs to be dealt with. As my work progresses I am able to approach it with a relaxed yet focused mindset - developing it gradually, adding layer upon layer.
For me art is not merely a hobby but a perpetual challenge, a place where ideas flow endlessly and skills are constantly honed. Hours rush by in a moment. Painting is my pure passion.
