Shann Whitaker

Shann Whitaker is  New Zealander currently living in Mangawhai, Kaipara, but a culmination of countries, experiences and observations have lead him

to this creative point, most notably, nine years in Vietnam. There he headed a design company creating artwork packages for hotel and resorts. The patterned techniques and design practices that he adopted over that time have strongly influenced his work. Textual plaster

in an experimentation of finishes is a constant medium in his work, evoking curiosity about construction and form.

His latest works are inspired by his entry back into New Zealand.

A new perspective of Aotearoa. New Zealander’s  love of ‘black’

through design, natural native shapes and colour finishes from bush walks,  intersecting various textured strips, representing important

times in his life and an interest in midcentury form and function all inspire his new works. He prefers his artwork to sit out from the wall

adding a floating element, casting different shadows  as you walk around the artwork.
