Art at the Viaduct

From the Capital City to the City of Sails, shortly we will arrive at our third art destination of 2024. Auckland’s Largest Art Show will be looking a little different this year. What’s new? Our location! You will now find us at The Viaduct Events Centre- a gem on the central city’s vibrant waterfront, boasting stunning views from every angle.

This time next week, our team of staff and talented artists will transform this space into an art escape, our favourite way to brighten up a classic kiwi winter. We will be doing what we do best, with the very best- just to name a few…

Artist, Janice Napper will be there with her distinctive contemporary artwork, easily identified through her rich colour hues and glass like finishes. Shannon Turuwhenua, a wood sculptor joins us from North Waikato. He is part of a whanau based collective, Past Present Future that covers multiple art disciplines. Lisa Grennell returns, she specialises in silkscreen printing and painting on perspex. Bruce Mortimer is back, his focus is on traditional mediums in a contemporary style, hand-drawn photorealism, expressionism and large mixed media artworks.

Also exhibiting with us; Nathan Ingram pseudonymously known as “Dr Suits,” an Ōtautahi-based artist and designer with backgrounds in fashion and urban art. Kristin Hyde an intuitive, mixed media and resin artist who creates from a place she calls her ‘inner being’. Her work is often recognized for her use of bright, bold colour and texture. Amrit Kaur, an NZ-based artist who draws profound inspiration from her deep connection with nature. Her art captures the essence of the natural world, exploring light, colour, and texture. Glass artist, David Traub whose career in glass spans over 40 years! And fans of The Space Cowboy will be pleased to hear he is joining us in Auckland for the first time, with his reality defying works.

If you haven't heard, our show now begins with a VIP preview at 5:30pm. See all the art with special access even before our official opening later in the evening- tickets available but limited! We are also anticipating the announcement of the next finalist in The Stuff Art Aotearoa Gold Award for Art Excellence. Who will be our Auckland finalist? All will be revealed during our Opening Night by Lead Judge, Karl Chitham accompanied by Regional Judge, Ngaire Stone.

It’s also important to note that just in time for the school holidays, children aged 16 and under have free admission during our Show Days. Make a day of it and immerse yourself in our vibrant maze of art and artists. Enjoy the onsite café, connect with artists, discover the talent and marvel at the live demonstrations. From tiny treasures to seriously large art, there will as always, be something for everyone! We have also teamed up with Volvo Cars Auckland, who will be running test drives coinciding with our Show Day hours.

The Auckland Art Show VIP Preview and Opening Night:  Friday, July 12th (presale).

Show Days: Saturday, July 13th and Sunday, July 14th (Door sales available).
